Marie’s story
Most at Conja have lived experience with the key use cases Conja is addressing. In David’s case, it was with his mum Marie.
“An independent woman who fought to change the retirement age for women, Marie lived independently for years on the Central Coast but was increasing suffering with dementia from age 90.”
She was desperate to remain in her home, but needed care. Our urgent application for an Aged Care package took 18 months before an ACAT assessor arrived and then 3 more months for the OT to report and have a level 3 package approved. By that time she had deteriorated and needed a higher level of care and we could not find an OT to assess critical home modifications to support her staying at home. Fortunately, we solved the problem of designing and procuring new grab rails and bathroom mods - most are not so lucky - and Marie was able to continue living independently until a month off turning 99.”
Conja can significantly improve this situation by allowing remote, expedient and regular assessment to ensure care and home modifications can be calibrated to people like Marie’s changing needs.
The mission
To promote safer independent living and get people home safely from hospital
Ensuring people live in a safe home environment is fundamental to reducing the impact of spiralling hospital costs.
It allows people to remain at home longer as they age.
It allows doctors to confidently release patients from hospital sooner.
It allows employers to be confident that people working from home can do so safely and effectively.
It provides an optimised environment for people rehabilitating or managing specific needs.
These four fundamental building blocks of successful home assessment and modification address some of the biggest costs to health and insurers.
The challenge
More effectively resourcing time critical assessments to expedite access to care and critical home modifications - current health resources can’t cope with the growing demand for care and rehab across our communities.

The size of the challenge and the scope of the opportunity
A telling statement
“Sending an OT to do an assessment in remote parts of Australia is frankly a nightmare and it’s one that can run into the thousands of dollars. There are many parts of the country that have no OT support whatsoever.
“I was at a conference in WA not long ago and the solutions discussed were focussed on telehealth and Zoom, so they would be blown away with what Conja can do and it would have immediate positive impact on their lives.”
